Nigerian comedian and filmmaker AY Makun joins the December trail of movies to expect with The Waiter. Produced under Corporate World Entertainment, the film promises a blend of humor and commentary on Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.

The action-comedy tells the story of a waiter caught in the crosshairs of a hotel invasion. Directed by Toka McBaror, it features an ensemble cast including Deyemi Okanlawon, Regina Daniels, Rahama Sadau, and Williams Uchemba.  

AY’s cinematic journey began with his debut, 30 Days in Atlanta, a 2014 blockbuster and one of Nollywood’s highest-grossing films. He followed with hits like A Trip to Jamaica in 2016 and Merry Men: The Real Yoruba Demons in 2018. Known for his unique comedic style, AY consistently draws audiences to the box office.  

The Waiter benefits from an innovative distribution merger between Genesis Pictures and Silverbird Distribution. Tagged the “Gensilver Deal,” the partnership aims to revolutionize Nollywood’s film distribution. Genesis’ Nnaeto Orazulike and Silverbird’s Isabella Okechukwu emphasized the deal’s potential for global reach and industry growth.  

AY praised the collaboration, calling it a transformative step for Nigeria’s film industry. The merger positions Genesis and Silverbird to rival FilmOne, fostering competition and setting new standards for equitable revenue sharing. As the feature gears up for its release, Nollywood anticipates a film that entertains while breaking new ground in storytelling and distribution.  

The Waiter will debut across cinemas in Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia on December 20, 2024.
