Top 10 Nollywood Titles To Lookout For In 2025

Its a new year and loads of movies are coming your way to keep you entertained.

The year 2024 delivered unforgettable stories and remarkable performances, setting new records and redefining box office success. Internationally, Deadpool & Wolverine captivated audiences with its humor and action, becoming Nigeria’s highest-grossing Hollywood film for 2024. Midyear, Courage Obayuwana’s debut feature, Kill Boro, sparked conversations with its flawed production but gripping storyline. The biopic Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti won Best Writing at the 2024 African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), marking a significant achievement. And then for the first time, a Nollywood film (Everybody Love’s Jenifa) grossed over 1 billion naira within 19 days of its release.

This leaves us wondering—what surprises will 2025 bring?

Well as the 2025 race begins, one thing is for sure, there will always be a lineup of movies and series to keep you entertained. Your favorite stars will keep delivering top-notch performances and new ones will also tickle your fancy.

 

With that, in no particular order here are 10 Nigerian movies to expect in 2025:

 

10. Something About The Briggs (SATB)

Written and directed by Bukola Ogunsola, Something About The Briggs promises a journey of love, luxury, and family. The cast includes Daniel Etim-Effiong, Stan Nze, Ariyiike Owolagba, Elma Mbadiwe, Rita Dominic, Kalu Ikeagwu and Gloria Young. The drama-packed feature will premiere on January 2025. 

 

9.The Man Died

Two renowned names Nollywood Femi Odugbemi and Wale Ojo, have worked on a film adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s novel The Man Died. The project is teased to be Ojo’s best performance yet, however, the release date remains undisclosed.

The Man Died made a stunning appearance at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in October 2024. Making it a must-watch in 2025.

 

 

8. Love Lock Down

 

 

Produced by Uche Okocha of Trino Motion Pictures, the feature delves into the lives of individuals navigating relationships during the unprecedented global crisis. Directed by Lindsey Efejoku the cast includes Andrew Bunting, Detola Jones, Yewande Osamien, Doris Okorie, and Obichi Marshall. 

 

Love Lockdown promises an unforgettable tale of love, heartbreak, and resilience and will drop across cinemas nationwide on February 7, 2024. 

 

 

7. Wire Wire

 

 Award-winning movie and theatre director Bolanle Austen-Peters is also set to debut Wire Wire in 2025. It features a stunning list that includes Shaffy Bello, Neo Akpofure, Bisola Aiyeola, Erica Nlewedim, Bucci Franklin and Lillian Afegbai, Principal photography wee believed to have wrapped up in 2023, however, during the last quarter of 224 Austen-Peters posted a video hinting on the final call on the shooting phase.

 

 

6. Finding Me

Award-winning director and producer of Everybody Loves Jenifa Funke Akindele is in a row as fans can anticipate the drop of Finding Me in 2025.

Earlier in the year 2024, the internet broke into an uproar as the cast unveil for the movie had everyone talking. Written, directed and produced by Akindele herself, Finding Me features Shaffy Bello, Dele Odule, Sharon Ooja, Tina Mba, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Omoni Oboli, Omowunmi Dada, Efe Iwara, Joseph Benjamin, Femi Adebayo Salami, Emeka Nwagbaraocha, and AbdulGafar Abiola (The Cute Abiola).

5. Blood Sisters 2

 

 Recall the Netflix mini-series on two inseparable friends Kemi (Nancy Isime) and Sara (Ini Dima-Okojie), who are forced to run after a wealthy groom disappears. Well, in the last quarter of 2024, the producers Ebony Life Studios announced the production of the sequel.

With a wrap-up of the principal photography in early December 2024, Blood Sisters 2 is slated to make a drop in 2025.

 

 

4. Red Circle

Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed the feature length promises an intriguing drama. Directed by Akay Mason, this action thriller brings the legendary Bukky Wright from retirement. It features Folu Storms, Timini Egbuson, Tobi Bakre, Lateef Adedimeji, Chief Femi Branch, Omowunmi Dada, Mike Afolarin, Ruggedy Baba, Debo Macaroni, and more.

 

 

3. Reel Love

 

 

Award winning Nigerian actor Timini Egbuson takes a first dive as an executive producer with Reel Love. Directed by Kayode Kasum and produced Ojelabi Lara the feature film tells the tale of a love journey that went from fake to real.

Some of the faces to expect includes; TJ Omusuku, Bimbo Ademoye, Funke Akindele, Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Shaffy Bello, Muyiwa Ademola, Jay On-air, Efa Wara, Bridget Johnson and Hermes Iyele.

Distributed by Film One Ng, Reel Love will premiere on February 14 at the cinemas.

 

 

2. KOB 3(The Beginning Of The End)

KOB returns after a four year wait.

 

The King Of Boys franchise’s third installment has everyone at the edge of their seats. Written and directed by Kemi Adetiba, KOB follows the life of Alhaja Eniola Salami a powerful businesswoman and philanthropist with political ambitions, played by veteran star actress Sola Shobowale. 

This sequel comes after a four year gap since the last installment was released on Netflix on August 27, 2021. Adetiba in an highly anticipated post on Instagram, announced her return to the Nigerian box office. As KOB 3 is scheduled to debut across cinemas nationwide in December 2025.

In 2018, the initial feature King Of Boys grossed 245 million naira, making it the second highest grossing for 2018. With this record already set, fingers are crossed to see what new grossing records are set in December 2025.

 

 

 

 

1. Finding Messiah

Ghanaian-Nigerian music executive Oscar Heman-Ackah pivots into filmmaking with the upcoming Finding Messiah. The film is set in the fictional nation of Zambay, grappling with political unrest that feels strikingly familiar. Bucci Franklin takes on a leading role alongside Nollywood legends Pete Edochie, Keppy Ekpeyong, Segun Arinze, Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett, Ngozi Ezeonu, Ejike Asiegbu, and Alex Usifo. The cast also features Majid Michael, Sunshine Rosman, Daddy Showkey, and Lilian Afegbai.

Sometime in 2024, the producers released a five-minute teaser alongside a soundtrack for the political musical drama film. The distinct sound got the audience excited and eager for the big drop. 

It is, however, still not clear whether or not this would be a cinematic or streaming platform release.
