Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, known for his roles in His House and Gangs of London, takes the lead in Akinola Davies Jr.’s highly anticipated directorial debut, My Father’s Shadow. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election in Lagos, follows two young brothers spending a day with their estranged father. This marks a significant moment for Davies Jr., also known as Crack Stevens, who has gained recognition for his music videos and short films.

The film is based on a script by brothers Wale Davies and Akinola Davies Jr., whose previous collaboration on Lizard won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2021 and garnered a BAFTA nomination for Best British Short Film.

The movie, developed by BBC Film, explores the complexities of family dynamics amidst political turmoil. My Father’s Shadow is produced by Element Pictures, in association with Crybaby and Fatherland Productions, with a script co-written by Davies Jr. and Wale Davies. The film is backed by Mubi for North American rights and The Match Factory for international sales.
