Fave

Fave has been named Spotify’s EQUAL Africa Ambassador for the month of November, celebrating her influence within the African music scene and promoting equity for women in the industry. Fave’s artistry sits at the crossroads of Afrobeats, neo-soul, and a distinctly personal narrative style. Known for her hit track “Baby Riddim,” which catapulted her into the spotlight in 2021, the Nigerian artist joins a roster of powerful African female musicians who have previously held this title. Her subsequent projects, including her debut EP Riddim 5 and recent single “Dutty Love,” continue to reveal her sublime talent and have charted impressively across Africa.

She solidified her reputation with a feature on Davido’s “Kante” from the record-breaking Timeless album, which became one of Nigeria’s most-streamed songs on Spotify in 2023.

Through the EQUAL program, Spotify highlights women creators from diverse backgrounds, aiming to bridge the gender gap in music by providing increased visibility and resources. Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, sub-Saharan Africa, disclosed this, stating that the EQUAL Africa programme was meant to amplify the voices of African artistes, showcasing their art to larger audiences. She noted “Spotify is delighted to shine a spotlight on Nigerian music sensation, Fave, as November 2024’s EQUAL Africa artist of the month. With her soulful voice, compelling lyrics, and distinctive rhythmic style, FAVE is a powerful presence in Nigeria’s music scene and beyond.

She continued, “Fave is a shining example of the talent and potential emerging from Africa’s vibrant music scene. Her sound has resonated with listeners across the globe, and we’re proud to celebrate her as part of the EQUAL Africa programme. We look forward to seeing her inspire the next generation of artistes.”

Fave’s journey in a male-dominated industry hasn’t been easy, yet she views these challenges as motivation. She explained, “Being a woman in the music industry can feel like an uphill climb, but it’s made me more determined.” The EQUAL initiative aligns closely with her aspirations, giving her and other women musicians a platform that elevates their voices and artistic impact. It’s empowering to be part of something working towards balance in the industry,” she shared.
