Mr. Eazi Set to Drop Debut Solo Album in October

Musician, businessman, and international nomad, Mr Eazi, will release his long-awaited debut solo album, The Evil Genius, on October 27th, 2023.

His latest single, “Advice” produced by Ghana’s M.O.G. Beatz, is the third single off the forthcoming project. On the track, Mr. Eazi takes on a gritty, reflective tone, sharing his experiences with betrayals and challenges at the height of his success.

The Evil Genius, recorded over two years in various cities, including Ouidah, Cotonou, Kokrobite, Accra, Los Angeles, New York City, Lagos, and Kigali, contains 16 tracks and is now available for pre-order. The album is forged to be a deeply personal one, exploring themes like love, betrayal, loneliness, and family through three distinct acts.

Speaking on the album’s title, Mr Eazi explains, “There’s been this low-key notion that Eazi is this calculated bad guy, and I started to fight this narrative. Then it hit me: This album is me fighting the ‘people pleaser’ in me, and accepting that image. By the time you listen to this project from beginning to end, you will have met ‘The Evil Genius.’ If you still think I’m the bad guy, so be it.”

Mr Eazi did something really cool while working on his album. He traveled around Africa and met amazing visual artists along the way. Hence, in a first-of-its-kind fusion of African music and art, Mr Eazi commissioned 13 artists from eight African countries to create beautiful art pieces to represent each of the album’s 16 tracks.

According to Eazi, “Inviting artists to create for the album was from my passion for creativity and expression. I formed a true bond with many of my artist friends. The artworks visually unlock the ideas, emotion, and energy within my music.” For “Advice,” Kenyan artist Alpha ODH created an acrylic painting that complements the song’s defiant lyrics.

Prior to the album’s anticipated release on October 27th, Mr. Eazi extends a warm invitation to the public to experience the music alongside art and several multi-sensory experiences. This exhibition will be held at Gallery 1957 in Ghana, a country that holds great significance for Mr. Eazi because it’s where he started his music journey and gained his initial fame. It will run from September 13th to 18th. After that, the exhibition will head to London as part of the well-known 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House, from October 12th to 15th.

Keep your ears out as additional exhibition announcements in other cities are forthcoming.
