Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis has completed a deadline-day loan transfer to English Championship side Blackburn Rovers after a frustrating stint at Nottingham Forest, where he was deemed surplus to requirements.

Dennis was one of Forest’s statement signings in the summer of 2022 following their promotion to the Premier League. The 27-year-old striker joined for £10 million but managed only 19 league appearances, scoring two goals. He spent most of last season on loan at Basaksehir and then Watford, the club from which he initially joined Forest.

The Super Eagles forward was omitted from Forest’s 25-man league squad for the first half of the ongoing 2024/25 campaign. Watford had reportedly shown interest in re-signing him, but it was Rovers who secured the deal, making him their sixth signing of the window and their third signing on deadline day, following the arrivals of Yuri Ribeiro from Braga and Cauley Woodrow from Luton Town.

“Rovers have concluded their transfer deadline day business with the loan signing of Nigeria international Emmanuel Dennis from Nottingham Forest,” the club announced via their website.

Dennis becomes the fourth Super Eagles star to sign for Rovers, following in the footsteps of Dickson Etuhu, Hope Akpan, and legend Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

The eight-capped Eagles goalscorer will hope to rediscover his form at Ewood Park, much like his compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho, who also completed a deadline-day move to Middlesbrough from Sevilla.
