Netflix has released the trailer for its new sports documentary series, Court of Gold, which profiles Team USA, France, Canada, and Serbia during the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s basketball tournament, held from July 27 to August 10, 2024.

Team USA were the ultimate gold medalist, securing their fifth consecutive Olympic title by defeating host nation France 98-87 in a packed Bercy Arena in Paris on August 10. However, beyond the thrilling victory, France’s silver, and Serbia’s bronze medal finish, the Court of Gold docuseries, which is set to debut on February 18, unpacks even more.

The project is a six-episode (each 45 minutes) collaborative production between the Olympic Channel, Higher Ground Productions, and Words + Pictures Production. Directed by Jake Rogal, the series also lists Barack and Michelle Obama among its executive producers.

The docuseries provides exclusive behind-the-scenes access to each team’s Olympic journey, with interviews featuring President Obama, Kevin Durant (Team USA), Victor Wembanyama (France), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), and others that revealed the untold stories, plus the dedication, rivalry, and cultural significance that comes to play in the journey to Olympic glory.

One notable omission from the interview lineup is Los Angeles Lakers and Team USA star LeBron James. But what James’ absence takes away, Durant more than makes up for in the series. The Captain America has sparked online discussions, particularly regarding his response to Team France’s Evan Fournier. In a clip, Fournier highlighted his team’s decade-long chemistry, prompting Durant’s iconic rebuttal: “That chemistry going to help you when you got to guard Steph?”

The comment hits harder in hindsight, considering Steph played a pivotal role in Team USA’s victory with 24 points and eight 3-pointers — including 4 in the final minute — to hold off France.

Court of Gold extends Netflix’s impactful collaborations with the Olympic Channel. Previous projects include Simone Biles Rising, a series on the most decorated artistic gymnast, Simone Biles, which was released before the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the second instalment of SPRINT, which premiered in November 2024. SPRINT profiled several Olympic athletics champions, including Noah Lyles, Julien Alfred, Gabby Thomas, and Letsile Tebogo.
