Nigerian music icon Wizkid is set to make his film festival debut with the documentary Wizkid: Long Live Lagos, premiering at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

The film will screen as part of the festival’s Spotlight+ section, which pairs film premieres with live events. Following the screening, Wizkid and director Karam Gill will sit down for a live conversation, offering what might be the artist’s most direct reflection yet on his rise, his city, and his legacy. It’s a rare opportunity to hear from one of pop’s most private stars in something close to his own words.

The 83-minute documentary traces Wizkid’s path from the streets of Lagos to international stages, capturing not only his musical evolution but the broader cultural shift he helped engineer with Afrobeats, now a fixture of the global pop conversation.

The film accommodates archival footage, concert performances, and intimate interviews, offering a portrait of an artist who reshaped how the world sees Africa. It acknowledges the complexities of fame, legacy, and the responsibility that comes with global influence.

Contributors include Femi Kuti, Sunday Are, Jada Pollock, Julia Adenuga, Matthew Temitope Solomon, Karen Binns, Adosu Segan, and Seni Saraki, voices who help place Wizkid’s story in a larger cultural and historical context. The documentary is produced by Gill and Daniel Malikyar, and distributed in the U.S. by HBO Documentary Films.

Long Live Lagos screens June 6, 7, and 11 in New York City.
