Nigerian artist and filmmaker Godwin has released his debut album, Atonement. Alongside the album comes the official video for “Fallen”, a slow-burning visual companion to one of the project’s most intimate tracks.

A profoundly human body of work, Atonement is a story of affection, conflict, and healing, told with striking vulnerability and artistic precision. The album captures both the euphoria and ache of human connection, tracing the emotional cycle of a relationship: two strangers meeting, growing closer, clashing, and finally learning to let go. This story is built on a sonic foundation of haunting vocals, soulful melodies, and a rich blend of acoustic and electronic textures that feel both intimate and expansive. “I’m always trying to say something,” Godwin explains in a statement. “This album was written as a story, structured around two characters: myself and an imaginary girl I call Abeke.”

Hailing from Kaduna, Godwin brings an authenticity that stands apart in the global Afrobeats era. His proposition ventures into uncharted territory, influenced by the complex writing of Labi Siffre and the genre-bending freedom of Labrinth. His path has been steadily building, from a breakout COLORSxSTUDIOS performance of “Home” to opening for Tems on her European tour.

As a co-founder of the film collective The Critics Company and having been mentored by filmmakers like JJ Abrams, Godwin’s multidisciplinary vision is clear. Atonement is an anthology of shared experiences, a reflection of resilience, and an ambitious debut that establishes Godwin as a vital new voice in soul and R&B.
