The Super Eagles of Nigeria booked their place in the Unity Cup final with a composed 2-0 win over the Warriors of Zimbabwe at The Valley stadium in London, courtesy of a brace from debutant Femi Azeez.

With several regulars absent, Eric Chelle handed opportunities to fringe players and first-timers, yet the performance never looked disjointed. Captained by Terem Moffi, Nigeria controlled early proceedings and got a deserved lead with a confident strike from outside the area after being picked out by Moffi, whose awareness and timing stood out throughout the game. 

The Super Eagles kept pushing after the opener, with Philip Otele’s direct running causing problems down the flanks, while Alhassan Yusuf added energy in midfield. Moffi himself came close to getting on the scoresheet before halftime, but Zimbabwe managed to keep the deficit at one heading into the break.

Zimbabwe returned with more purpose in the second half and enjoyed better spells of possession, but Nigeria’s backline, helmed by highly rated debutant Arthur Okonkwo, stood on their ground against the pressure. 

About three minutes after the hour mark, Nigeria found the second goal that effectively settled the contest. Otele slipped a neat pass into Azeez inside the box, and the debutant kept his composure to finish calmly for his brace.

Beyond Azeez’s headline performance, other players like Moffi and Yusuf were also decent. The Super Eagles now move on to the Unity Cup final, where they will defend the title against the winner of the India-Jamaica semi-final.
