Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 11 now has its first Gambits, and viewers picked Flora and Aikou to fill the role.

Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu made the announcement live on Sunday, August 2, following the fake nomination twist Big Brother introduced after last Monday’s Head of House game. That twist, dubbed The Gambit, saw viewers vote not to evict a housemate but to select one male and one female housemate for a special new position in the game. Big Brother explained that whoever got picked would be guaranteed a spot in the house until the final week and would remain eligible for tasks, challenges and sponsored rewards throughout the season, but with one major catch: they would be locked out of competing for the ₦160 million grand prize.

On Sunday, Ebuka added a new layer to the role, telling viewers that Flora and Aikou will now serve as agents of Big Brother and of the audience inside the house, hinting that there’s more responsibility still to come for the pair who are expected to remain in the house for the full ten-week run.

Flora ran away with the vote, pulling 29.18 percent, while Aikou trailed with 9.10 percent, narrowly edging out Ricky (7.10 percent) and Abi (6.07 percent) for the second Gambit slot.

Both housemates have already made an impression since the season premiered. Flora, the Delta-born entrepreneur, walked into the house declaring she wouldn’t dim herself for anyone. She’s kept up that energy on screen, most notably with her habit of moving around the house in a wrapper, telling anyone who had an issue with it that she wasn’t changing for their comfort. Her standout moment so far, though, wasn’t a flattering one: during Thursday’s wager presentation, she blanked on her lines for the female team, contributing to their loss to the male team. In her Sunday diary session, she pinned the slip on anxiety, saying she was disappointed given how much preparation had gone into it.

Aikou, the Abuja-based bookworm known for his calm, philosophical takes on house issues, has also stood out for a distinct, old-school Northern elite accent that resurfaced prominently on Sunday when Ebuka asked him to name housemates he felt were putting up an act. Aikou pointed to Flora and Nomy, and in doing so for Flora, offered a strikingly descriptive read, noting that she has different strata of personality that make her difficult to fully understand. That observation struck a chord with a section of viewers online, many of whom said he’d read her correctly.

With Sunday’s announcement, Flora and Aikou are now officially out of contention for the ₦160 million grand prize, even as they remain in the house for the rest of the season. That leaves 22 of the original 24 housemates still in the running for the crown.

But housemates are yet to discover who The Gambit duo are. It is not clear when Big Brother intends to inform them about the latest development in the new gameplay, but it is sure to stir up some interesting reactions in the house when the reveal arrives.
