The Show Ya Sef house rarely gave fans the “aww” moments the franchise is known for.

One of the biggest features of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) seasons is a “ship” — a romantic relationship between two housemates. The show’s fans love love, and when you put 20 or more adults of different sexes in a confined space for ten weeks, feelings are bound to develop, and viewers are bound to be entertained by the lovey-dovey and messy moments that come with it. Some ships crash within days, some fizzle out after the show ends, and a rare few — like BamBam and TeddyA, or Kaffy and Gedoni, who marked six years of marriage just last week — go all the way to the altar.
The Show Ya Sef house of the just-concluded Season 11, however, rarely gave fans the “aww” moments the franchise is known for. There were tender stretches — Goddessa and Araga, and Yusuf and Bells, rarely tired of kissing in the lounge, the locker room, under the sheets and everywhere in between — but those moments were consistently overshadowed by nonchalance and toxic, messy breakups.
BSide takes a look at some of the season’s most troubled ships:
Yusuf and Bells
Yusuf and Bells quickly became inseparable, sharing intense chemistry and leaning on each other as each other’s main support system in the house. But theirs was a relationship defined by cycles — together one week, cold the next, then back again.
Trust was always a sore point, with Bells’ habit of oversharing their private moments humiliating Yusuf more than once, including a Week 8 blow-up after an Arena game. The most explosive moment came during the August 23 live eviction show, when Ebuka pressed the pair on their intimacy. Bells denied anything had happened between them, but Yusuf cut in anyway: “Ebuka, it has happened.”

By mid-September, Yusuf said in a diary session that he could no longer trust her with private matters and wanted to stay just friends. But as usual, they were soon back together on the same bed. They were evicted together on September 20. During their appearance on Bounce Radio, Bells blamed their unstable relationship on lack of communication and Yusuf agreed. And if Yusuf were to do it all over again, he said he wouldn’t be in a ship in the house, not because he didn’t like Bells, but because he felt that it was a distraction.
When asked if they were willing to continue their romance outside the house, the chorus was: “No comment.”
Chimsom Chuka and Bluethopia
Chimsom’s interest in Bluethopia only really began after Kamsy rejected him for constantly steering their conversations toward sex. He pivoted to Bluethopia, who went out of her way to show devotion, even washing his laundry and boxers, a gesture that made Chimsom admit, “I think I am starting to like this girl back.”
Chimsom: BlueThopia doesn't cook for me. She doesn't value me. She gist with Keivo but doesn't gist with me. She doesn't do anything for me but I do a lot for her. #BBNaijapic.twitter.com/HUlgWaWvWr
Once they got together, though, the roles flipped — Chimsom became the chaser, while Bluethopia was often seen being nonchalant whenever they talked, a dynamic other housemates noticed too. Chimsom frequently complained that she would gist freely with other housemates but turned cold whenever he wanted the same energy from her. On the night Chimsom would leave the house, Keivo confessed that she liked Bluethopia and her response was that: “May the best man win,” further complicating her relationship with Chimsom.
Speaking on Bounce Radio after his exit, Chimsom was quite coy about his feelings, saying conversations will be had at the end of the show and whatever will be will be.
On Friday, October 2, when Ebuka visited the finalists, he pressed Bluethopia on the relationship, and she said she felt pressured in the house, adding that she thought the connection was better explored outside. Sheba didn’t buy it, saying she doesn’t like him, but he really liked her. Barry agreed, telling Bluethopia, “I will say it for a fact; at some point, you were not reacting to Chuka as someone that likes somebody.” Bluethopia denied it but wouldn’t say whether she liked him either, saying only that she was willing to try, despite it “not being at the top of her list.”
EBUKA: how much do you miss him ( Chimsom Chuka)
Bluethopia: a lot
EBUKA: it looked like you guys have something but you guys were also being safe and careful
Bluethopia: he has his way I have my way, Chuka’s love language is words of affirmation and mine was acts of service the little things I do you people don’t see it.. you people want to chop my meat
Araga fell for Goddessa early, drawn to how natural and unmasked she was around the house, with both of them sharing a kiss less than five days into the show. He reassured her constantly, telling her plainly, “it’s you I want.” They spent early mornings bonding and talking strategy. But Goddessa, worried about looking foolish, began pushing his boundaries, encouraging him to let other housemates chase him as a test of his loyalty to her. The mind games, combined with house gossip, slowly wore the relationship down.
When Goddessa was evicted in Week 5, Araga admitted that had she stayed in the house that week, he would have ignored her entirely. But he appeared to soften not long after, placing flowers by her photo on the wall and speaking warmly about their time together. He was evicted two weeks later and in his exit interview with Bounce Radio, he declined to talk about the dynamics of their relationship. On whether he intends to rekindle their situation outside the house, Araga suggested that he was not interested, saying “what happens in the Big Brother house stays in the Big Brother house.”
Gerard and Kamsy
Gerard and Kamsy hit it off fast, quickly becoming one of the house’s strongest early duos. But Gerard’s insecurity got the better of him. He grew intensely jealous of Kamsy’s friendliness with other male housemates, especially Chimsom Chuka. He eventually ended things himself, admitting afterward that he didn’t want to be remembered by viewers as the guy who came on BBNaija just to chase a woman. Kamsy, who had only recently opened up about developing real feelings for him, was left to process the breakup without him, and the two drifted for the rest of her run before her eviction in Week 3.
Speaking on Bounce Radio, Gerard said the future of their relationship was up in the air because what happens in the house usually happens because it’s the house.
In her own exit interview with Bounce Radio, Kamsy said Gerard allowed gossip and rumours about their ship to get to him. While she admitted that she doesn’t know what the future holds for a future romantic relationship, she would like to be friends with him.
