It's Blaqbonez's World, We're Just Living in It

Blaqbonez has spent 2026 making it increasingly difficult to leave Nigerian hip-hop out of the mainstream conversation. From “HUSTLE KPA $$$,” “Chanel” with Asake to the solo success of “Big Performer,” his year has been defined by records that have travelled beyond rap’s usual audience and competed on the same charts as Afrobeats’ biggest releases.

The distinction matters. A major collaboration can introduce a rapper to a wider audience, but sustaining that attention requires more than one hit. Blaqbonez has followed one commercial high with another, building a run that puts his music, not just his personality or rivalries, at the centre of the conversation.

And with another project on the horizon, the question is no longer whether Blaqbonez can command attention. It’s how much further this run can go.

If there’s any proof he built his world and we are just living in it, these are the signs.

“ACL” Put Him Back in the Picture

For years, Blaqbonez built a reputation as one of the most formidable rappers in the country with playful stunts, loud confidence and boastful bars. However, “ACL” was more than another release; it strategically turned his personal feud with ODUMODUBLVCK into one of the biggest rap songs of 2025. It became his tenth Top 10 entry on the Official Nigeria Top 100, reaching No. 8 at its peak.

While the original version of the diss track was removed from streaming platforms (due to ODUMODUBLVCK’s alleged purchase of full rights to the beat from the producer), Blaqbonez released an updated version on the No Excuses Deluxe album in April 2026.

Still, that seemed like the beginning of what Blaqbonez had in store for the year.

“Chanel”: The Asake-Assisted Breakthrough

Afrobeats heavyweight Asake was already having an extraordinary year with the release of M$NEY and M$NEY: Live in London projects. So a collaboration with Blaqbonez could easily have become another example of a rapper borrowing the gravitational pull of one of Afrobeats’ biggest stars. Instead, the record became Blaqbonez’s first No. 1 on the Nigeria Turntable Top 100, and eventually spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1.

From viral TikTok moments to social media trends that fueled the widespread traction, it also peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart, and has now garnered over 35 million streams on Spotify alone. No doubt the sheer weight of Asake on the song is a powerful catalyst for its numbers. Even months later, “Chanel” remains one of the most defining songs of 2026.

“Big Performer” Made the Solo Case

If “Chanel” earned him his biggest winning streak, “Big Performer” proved Blaqbonez didn’t need an Afrobeats act to earn another for himself. The gritty club banger debuted at No. 6 on the Official Nigeria Top 100 with 2.004 million streams. More importantly, it climbed to No. 3 in its second week, becoming his highest-charting solo entry, surpassing “ACL”.

It also pushed Blaqbonez past Zlatan for the third-most Top 10 entries by a rapper in the history of the Official Nigeria Top 100, leaving him behind only Olamide and Odumodublvck at the time of the chart milestone.

“Ikebe 3000”: The Asake Brace

Released ahead of NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME album, “Ikebe 3000” brought Asake back into Blaqbonez’s universe for the second time. Through a long-standing bromance and a previous collaboration that allowed both artists to equally shine on the same record, the duo joined forces to deliver another hit record.

From reaching No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria and Spotify Nigeria, it joins his major records from this year that have again placed him at the top of the country’s listening charts.

Even the Noise Hasn’t Changed the Numbers

Blaqbonez’s 2026 has also unfolded alongside the lingering feud between him and ODUMODUBLVCK, who has also earned his place in the current Nigerian hip-hop conversation. Their rivalry has escalated beyond diss tracks to podcast interviews, court charges and reported cases of attacks.

Blaqbonez, a Nigerian hip-hop rapper

Even in an Afrobeats-dominated year, he has simply kept making records and features that force his name back into the conversation. His collaborations on projects including Victony’s Starlife, TML Vibez’s A Street Kid’s Diary II, Barry Jhay’s Barrystar Vol. 2, and EF Moon’s “I Knoww,” among other songs that have made him difficult to overlook.

By skillfully blending catchy Afrobeats melodies with contemporary hip-hop songs, Blaqbonez has become one of the clearest faces of Nigerian hip-hop’s commercial presence in 2026. And the most interesting part? He’s having fun with it.

And by the time NOMADINHO: 4TH PRIME drops, Emeka “Blaqbonez” Akumefule will prove again that the world is truly his own, and we’re just living in it.
