On February 9, 2022, the internet was a minefield of opinions as numerous nude photos of Ikuforijimi Abdulrahman, popularly known as Oxlade, crashed into it and kept the space buzzing. The most shocking, though, was the singer’s leaked sex tape.

Oxlade admitted to his wrongdoing and publicly apologized to his partner in the sex tape, Blessing John. However, she rightly asserted that since the tape was leaked without her consent, it was an absolute violation of her fundamental rights to dignity, privacy and freedom from discrimination guaranteed under Sections 34 and 37 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended); and Articles 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement), Act, CAP A9, LFN, 2004. Thus, on March 15th, 2022, she filed a lawsuit against the “Ku Lo Sa” crooner, seeking twenty million naira damages. 

The case dragged on into the new year and finally, on January 24th, 2023, Justice O. A. Oresanya of a Lagos State High Court delivered a judgment in favour of Blessing John. The judge went ahead to describe the action of the singer in secretly recording the explicit sex and leaking the tape online as “despicable, horrendous, distasteful and classless.” After the case was settled, he demanded that Oxlade pay damages of five million naira to Blessing John in two installments of two million naira and three million naira respectively.
