The 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards took center stage on October 8 at Drai’s Beachclub & Nightclub in Las Vegas, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome of hip-hop’s biggest night. While the event wasn’t broadcast live, a pre-recorded version aired on October 15 via BET and VH1, marking a return to old-school taped award shows.

The evening was set up to be a triumph for Megan Thee Stallion, who entered the ceremony leading with 12 nominations. However, the night ultimately belonged to Kendrick Lamar, who swept the floor with eight wins.

Despite coming in just behind Megan in total nominations with 11, Lamar took home awards in every category he was nominated in, owing to multiple nods in some fields. Megan, to the surprise of many, ended the night without a single win.

Nicki Minaj snagged one of the most coveted trophies, winning Hip-Hop Album of the Year for Pink Friday 2, a project that further cements her status as a genre mainstay. Meanwhile, Sexyy Red’s meteoric rise was recognized with the award for Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist, solidifying her as a new force to watch. 50 Cent, ever the business mogul, claimed the title of Hustler of the Year, a nod to his continued dominance across music, TV, and beyond.

Despite being nominated, Nigerian heavyweights ODUMODUBLVCK and Burna Boy left without any wins.

Performances throughout the night brought the heat, with a stacked lineup featuring 2 Chainz, GloRilla, Juicy J, Bossman Dlow, Trina, and Yung Miami, among others.

A standout moment of the night came when Travis Scott was honored with the I Am Hip Hop Award. The recognition celebrated a decade of innovation since his breakout with Days Before Rodeo and acknowledged how Scott’s boundary-pushing albums and cultural influence have redefined the landscape of modern hip-hop.
