The event promises a vinyl-powered celebration of indigenous African music, featuring DJ sets that exclusively spin records and a headline performance by the legendary Afro-Juju pioneer, Sir Shina Peters. Patrons stand a chance to purchase vinyl records and exclusive merch from Egwu records.

Egwu Records Festival

This festival marks Egwu Records’ second Lagos outing after a series of successful events in London, solidifying its reputation as a champion of vinyl culture. Founded in 2021, Egwu Records is on a mission to preserve the rich, tactile experience of vinyl, a medium once central to Nigeria’s music scene but now overshadowed by the dominance of digital streaming. Egwu seeks to bridge this gap, offering younger, tech-savvy audiences a chance to connect with an older, more intimate method of audio consumption while also serving as a nostalgic touchstone for seasoned music lovers.

The festival’s significance lies its larger cultural mission. Vinyl is a medium revered for its unfiltered sound quality and historical resonance; hence Egwu is fostering a renewed appreciation for African music’s authenticity. Beyond being a record shop, the collective offers services like vinyl pressing and event curation, aiming to create a community where music is both celebrated and preserved. In doing so, Egwu not only revives a fading tradition but repositions it as a vital part of contemporary African identity.
