The last two months have been awfully quiet, especially for the Nigerian film industry. However, FilmOne has responded to the silent doubts in the audience’s minds, with a long list of upcoming debuts. 

On Thursday, September 19, 2024, FilmOne Entertainment held its annual exhibitor’s showcase, with the theme: “Cinema Without Borders: Igniting Creativity.” The event displayed an array of the projects the company had rolled out as the leading distribution company in the country.

According to Ladun Awobokun, the Chief Content Officer at FilmOne Limited, “FilmOne Entertainment has distributed over 350 films to cinemas globally“. Despite the outstanding numbers so far, a long list of upcoming releases from Hollywood to Nollywood were unveiled.

The international releases slated for the rest of 2024 include Moana 2, Mufasa, Venom and Joker: Folie a Deux. To the amazement and thrill of the attendees, childhood fairytale Frozen 3 makes its return in 2025.

2024 Debuts

Farmers Bride

Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme Farmer’s Bride is one of Film One Studios original production. The feature tells the tale of a farmers journey to finding love again and the struggles the new wife faces. Dated for September 27, 2024, the drama stars Femi Branch, Tobi Bakare, Gbubemi Ejeye, Mercy Aigbe and Wunmi Toriola.

A Night In 2005

Directed and written by Ted Makanjuola, the project sheds a powerful story about truth and justice. The members of the cast include Ini Dinma-Okojie, Efa Iwara, Bimbo Akintola, Ireti Doyle, Teniola Aladese, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Taye Arimoro and Demi Banwo. A Night In 2005 will debut across cinemas on October 11, 2024.

3 Working Days

From the makers of Love In A Pandemic comes the new movie 3 Working Days starring Deyemi Okanlawon. Release date October 1.

A Ghetto Love Story

The film is a collaborative effort between Basketmouth and co-writer Victoria Eze. Directed by Daniel Oriahi it aims to celebrate the resilience and resourcefulness of marginalized communities. 

The feature stars Jude Chukwuka, Patience Ozokwo, Beverly Osu, Wale Ojo, Femi Jacobs, Nobert Young, Efe Irele and Chioma Chukwuka. It will be released on November 22, 2024.

Everybody Loves Jenifa 

Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele restores one of her old films into the upcoming Everybody Loves Jenifa. The upcoming project is expected to debut on December 13, 2024 and hints of possible international screenings.

Alakada and Bad and Boujee

Toyin Abraham also takes a swing at the December release with Alakada and Bad and Boujee. More details on the storyline is expected to be released in the coming days.

2025 Debuts

A Perfect Illusion

Your favourite lover boy character Timini Egbuson takes on a different role as an executive producer for his movie A Perfect Illusion. Directed by Kayode Kasum as a collaboration between Film Trybe and FilmOne Studios, the feature promises the perfect love story. A Perfect Illusion will debut across cinemas nationwide on February 14, 2025. 

Something About The Briggs (SATB)

Written and directed by Bukola Ogunsola, SATB promises a journey of love, luxury and family. The cast includes Daniel Etim-Effiong, Stan Nze, Ariyiike Owolagba, Elma Mbadiwe, Rita Dominic, Kalu Ikeagwu and Gloria Young. The drama-packed feature will premiere on an undisclosed date in January 2025. 

The Man Died

Two industry giants, Femi Odugbemi and Wale Ojo, have worked on a film depiction of Wole Soyinkas’s novel The Man Died. The project was teased to be Ojo’s best performance yet, however, the release date remains undisclosed.
