The television industry’s biggest night is shaping up to be a nail-biter. Nominations for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced and FX’s historical drama Shogun sliced through the competition, leading the pack with 25 nominations.

While Shogun dominates with its impressive showing, the race is far from over. Established favorites like The Bear (23 nominations) and Only Murders in the Building (21 nominations) are back in contention, along with fresh contenders like True Detective: Night Country (19). Even seasoned players like The Crown (18) refuse to be counted out.

The 76th Emmy Awards will air live on ABC on September 15th, taking place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The Creative Arts ceremonies, where most of the awards are distributed, will occur on September 7th and 8th. While the host is yet to be announced, the production team remains unchanged from last year, led by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay.

The 2023 Emmys, delayed to January 2024 due to industry strikes, saw HBO’s Succession dominate. With Succession now concluded, the drama category is open for new contenders, making this year’s competition particularly exciting.
