Since the release of the 2023 crime/thriller Gangs of Lagos, the award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Jade Osiberu has remained silent. But today, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, via social media, she broke the silence with a tease about upcoming projects.

Known for her action-packed movie slate which includes, Sugar Rush (2019), Brotherhood (2022) and then Gangs of Lagos – the filmmaker revealed the upcoming project is in fact a romantic comedy titled Christmas in Lagos.

The ‘Detty December ‘ themed story will include notable acts like Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Teniola Aladese, Angel Anosike, Shalom C Obiago and Supacell star Rayxia Ojo who plays the love interest of Nigerian musician Ladipoe. The feature includes Afrobeats stars like Adekunle Gold, Waje, Wurld, Liya and Ayra Starr, who will make a performance appearance. 

Jade Osiberu revealed that the Christmas feature wasn’t the only project in the works, also announcing that two action series are on the way. In her words, “I can here all my action people say, Jade whats all this romance, we want violence… I got you.. very soon i would be able to share the tea on two action series we are developing. But all I can say is one is of a Gangish nature”.

The movie surrounds Fiyin (Aladese), who is heartbroken and convinced that her best friend, Elo (Obiago), is her true love. However, Elo returns from New York with plans to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie (Anosike). Meanwhile, Gbemi (Shaffy) faces a tough choice between her current boyfriend (Wale Ojo) and an old flame (RMD). Additionally, Ivie (Rayxia), a Londoner who comes back to Lagos for an unforgettable December, unexpectedly finds love.

Furthermore, following the Amazon deal signed in 2022, the upcoming original feature is enlisted as one of the projects and will make its debut globally on Prime Video this December. In an interview with Variety, Osiberu confirmed departure from the Amazon Exclusive Deal as the platform plans to exit Africa.
