Show Dem Camp & The Cavemen Announce ‘No Love in Lagos’ Set for Release on August 9

Popular Nigerian alte-rap group Show Dem Camp and highlife band The Cavemen have announced a collaborative album titled NO LOVE IN LAGOS. The album’s release date is set for August 9th, 2024. The title itself suggests an exploration of love and its complexities within the bustle of Lagos. Interestingly, news of this collaboration first surfaced during a Show Dem Camp concert in the United Kingdom back in 2023.

Show Dem Camp, comprised of rappers Tec and Ghost, have been a mainstay in Nigerian hip hop since their formation in the early 2000s. Their sound, often described as “alte,” blends elements of classic hip hop with contemporary influences, resulting in a smooth and sophisticated style. Their production is known for its crispness and attention to detail, creating a perfect canvas for Tec and Ghost’s witty  wordplay. Over the years, they’ve released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including the highly celebrated Palmwine Music series, which explored themes of leisure, contemplation, and the Lagos social scene. Their last project, Palmwine Music III released two years ago, was the well-received fourth instalment of the series.

The Cavemen, on the other hand, bring a completely different sonic palette to the table. Comprised of brothers Kingsley and Benjamin Okorie, the duo’s music is deeply rooted in Afrobeat and highlife traditions. Their sound is characterized by warm guitar riffs, pulsating rhythms, and Kingsley’s soulful vocals, which effortlessly navigate between smooth crooning and impassioned delivery. Their lyrics often explore themes of love, social commentary, and the beauty of their Igbo heritage. Their work has strengthened their reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting young groups in the Nigerian music scene.
