Niniola

Niniola has earned her title as the Queen of Afro-House and “Lavish” is a standout track from her latest album Press Play — which is the epitome of what makes Niniola such a compelling artist: her ability to straddle multiple genres while maintaining a cohesive, recognizable sound. It is a project that finds her doubling down on her strengths while expanding into new territory.

On “Lavish” she ventures further into the seductive pull of amapiano, fusing her well-established Afro-house sensibilities with Magicsticks’ pulsating production. Known for blending house, Afrobeat, and soulful vocals, Niniola’s evolution is evident in this collaboration, where she delicately balances groove and melody, allowing her powerhouse voice to flow effortlessly over the log drums.

“Lavish” is quintessential Niniola. Magicsticks’ signature log drum pattern is glaring from the moment the track starts — delivering the tactile energy that defines amapiano, with rolling basslines, deep percussive loops driving the track forward. Niniola’s vocal delivery is both commanding and intimate, straddling the fine line between decadence and restraint. Lyrically, “Lavish” explores the familiar tropes of luxury and excess, but Niniola’s emotive phrasing and rich tonal shifts breathe life into what could have been a formulaic ode to affluence. There’s a sense of ease in her execution, a confidence that comes from years of honing her craft and understanding the pulse of the dancefloor. She lets the groove speak for itself.

“Lavish” is an assured party-blast as it is a medley of the groovy percussion of Amapiano and Afro-House that wields an infectious delight, diametrically leading listeners to the dance floor and retaining them there.
