On Thursday, April 2, Chelsea FC announced that it will visit Lagos, Nigeria, for the first time in the club’s history as part of its international fan engagement programme, The Famous CFC. Scheduled for a weekend in May 2026, the visit to Nigeria will be led by Super Eagles legend Victor Moses, who will meet the club’s teaming Nigerian supporters for a series of fan-focused activities.

The trip to Nigeria is Chelsea’s fifth and penultimate stop in The Famous CFC’s 2025/26 season calendar, which has been expanded to reach more fan communities worldwide as the campaign enters its final stretch. According to the club’s announcement, the weekend will feature a watch party along with exclusive activities, including a Q&A session with Moses, as well as signed merchandise giveaways for selected fans.

Moses departed Chelsea in 2021, but the former Nigerian winger remains a core figure for many Nigerian supporters of the club, having played actively for about four seasons. During that period, he notably won the Premier League title in the 2016/17 season. During his active years for Nigeria between 2012 and 2018, he was equally influential for the national team. He represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cup tournaments, in Brazil in 2014 and Russia in 2018. Moses was also part of the Stephen Keshi-led squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 in South Africa, Nigeria’s third and most recent continental title.

His homecoming to Nigeria with Chelsea for the club’s first-ever stop is in recognition of the city’s football culture and of Nigeria’s deep connection to the club. With a reported fanbase of over 30 million in the country, Chelsea holds a strong place among football-loving Nigerians. Aside from Moses, the club has also been home to Super Eagles legends like John Obi Mikel and Celestine Babayaro. More recently, Kenneth Omeruo and Ola Aina were at different points contracted to the club, although much of their time was spent out on loan, and they did not enjoy extended runs with the London-based side.
