Gerard is the latest housemate to be evicted from the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 11 house. Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu announced his exit during the live eviction show on Sunday, September 6.

Unlike last Sunday, when Goddessa and Sultex were shown the door, only one housemate — Gerard — was evicted in this round. He scored the lowest percentage of the vote among the 13 nominated housemates, with just 3.84 per cent. Barry, who scored 4.06 per cent, and Yusuf, who polled 4.23 per cent, narrowly escaped the axe.

Minutes before his eviction, Ebuka put Gerard on the spot, asking why he had been such a silent player on the show. “In six weeks, I haven’t seen you. That seems extremely off,” the host said.

Gerard struggled to explain his low-key gameplay, only noting that he had discussed it with Chimsom Chuka, without going into details of that conversation.

His stay in the house was most notable for his brief romantic entanglement with evicted housemate Kamsy, which ended about two days before her eviction. Although he suggested that the entanglement had held him back, he remained largely in the background for weeks after her exit.

The 23-year-old on-air personality from Lagos had entered the house billing himself as its wild card. He further described himself as competitive without wanting to win at any cost. That low-key approach, however, appeared to work against him in the end, as his limited screen time left little for viewers to vote for.

After Gerard’s eviction, Ebuka waded into the long-running dispute between friends-turned-foes Sheba and Tram, asking the former why she had so much to say behind the latter’s back. Sheba responded that she had spoken about her former friend because she had seen and heard him saying negative things about her behind her back, adding that he was too scared to say those things to her face. She also questioned Tram’s audacity to be “heartbroken” over disloyalty, after he had flirted with and kissed other girls on the show despite having a girlfriend outside the house.

After Sheba’s response, Ebuka gave Tram a chance to reply, asking why he expected loyalty in a game. Tram said he came on the show to have fun and got carried away thinking some connections were genuine. He added that he had come to realise Sheba came to play a game and was desperate to win, a comment that drew a sharp retort from her: she said she didn’t leave her son at home just to have fun and not win. “A mother will not leave her child and come here to play. I’m here to win, and I’m not even joking. This is business for me. I know vacation spots; I didn’t come to the Big Brother house for vacation,” she said.

The verbal spat continued for a while after Ebuka wrapped up his questioning, with Sheba taking exception to Tram bringing up her age. “Don’t tell me because I’m 32, [I can’t do anything I want],” she said, using the moment to urge any 32-year-old woman who feels her life is over because of her age that she’s wrong: “Girl, you can be hot; you can be sexy.”

The duo fell out around the third week of the show, after Tram chose to save Sheba during nominations, but she didn’t return the favour, saying she was not convinced that his head was in the game after he had considered a voluntary exit.
