Nollywood celebrates commendable progress as the Odunlade Adekola-led Yoruba epic, “Orisa” crosses ₦100 million in gross profit at the local box office, making it the highest-grossing opening film in Nollywood and the biggest epic of the year 2023.

“Orisa” leaped from ₦88 million on August 10th, 2023 to ₦100 million within just seven days. With its initial release on July 21st, 2023, the film has now held audiences for a solid four weeks.

Set in an ancient Yoruba city, the movie follows the eponymous protagonist, Orisa, a fierce warrior joined by a band of skilled fighters. Their exploits disrupt both the criminal underworld and the city’s rule. But a failed mission casts a dark shadow on Orisa’s fate. Members of cast include Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Kemi Afolabi, Muyiwa Ademola, Iya Rainbow, Binta Ayo Mogaji, Segun Ogungbe, Ireti Osayemi Bakare, and Eniola Afeez.

“Orisa” is still showing in cinemas nationwide and select cinemas in the United States.
