The Super Falcons of Nigeria are intensifying their preparations for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers, and the NFF have called upon a formidable squad to take on the Senior Women National Team of Ethiopia. A total of 22 players have been invited to the Super Falcons camp, with some of Nigeria’s brightest talents set to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Among the prominent names on the roster are; FC Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala, who has been a pivotal figure in women’s football, and Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, whose shot-stopping abilities have earned her a place amongst the world’s best. Meanwhile, 40-year-old skipper Onome Ebi has not been called up this time around.

The high-stakes showdown between the Super Falcons and Ethiopia is set to unfold in a two-legged fixture, with the first match scheduled for Wednesday, October 25, in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. The return leg, where Nigeria aims to secure its path to the Olympics, will take place on Tuesday, October 31, on home soil.

This contest promises to be an enthralling clash, as Nigeria, the nine-time champions of African women’s football, secured a bye into the second round while Ethiopia advanced by defeating Chad in the series opener. The Super Falcons have a rich history in women’s football, having impressively finished in tenth place at the 32-team FIFA Women’s World Cup finals held in Australia and New Zealand earlier this summer.

Nigeria’s journey toward the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualification series also received a boost as Sao Tome and Principe’s senior girls withdrew from the match, granting the Super Falcons a bye into the third round. In November, the Falcons are set to face their Cape Verdean opponents in the third round, taking a step closer to securing their spot in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco, next year.
