After a five-year endeavor, waf. has officially opened its skatepark, situated within the historic grounds of Freedom Park on the site of a former colonial prison. The waf. Skatepark aims to be an inclusive, safe and family-friendly space for skaters of all levels.

Waffles and Cream (waf. for short), Nigeria’s premier skate brand, is a movement and a window to the world for those feeling trapped in traditional career paths, mainstream sports and generational expectations. Created in 2012 out of a desire to nurture the budding skateboarding culture in Lagos, this initiative is the next step in strengthening the community of skateboarders and BMXers, as well as empowering local youth.

Jomi Bello, founder of waf., envisioned an ecosystem in which skate, art and commerce can go hand in hand, responding creatively to the needs of the community and representing Nigerian culture. The newly opened first local skatepark is a further manifestation of this vision.

Supported by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) & Concrete Jungle Foundation, the park was designed and built by Studio Contra, wheretofromhere and Concrete Jungle Foundation.

waf. Park will have a series of diverse programmes consisting of workshops, competitions, skate and BMX camps, skateboarding lessons, film screenings, seminars, extreme sports exhibitions, art exhibitions, DIY projects and so much more. There will also be a Clubhouse Café serving refreshments; a shop that stocks waf. merch as well as products from others within the local and global community.
