BBNaija Confirms Neche's Voluntary Exit After Emotional Farewell

Neche has taken a voluntary exit from Season 11 of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija). She left the “Show Ya Sef” house on Sunday night, August 16, after only three weeks on the reality TV show, walking away from the ₦160 million grand prize.

In a statement on Monday afternoon, August 17, the show’s organisers confirmed the exit and revealed that Neche took the decision as a result of pressing personal matters, which she said required immediate attention.

“We applaud Neche’s energy and commitment to the show, which was evident from her notable wins and achievements in the house. While we are sad to see her leave the house, we respect her decision and wish her continued success in her endeavours. She remains part of the BBNaija family, and we look forward to seeing all that she will achieve beyond the show,” the organisers said.

Late Sunday night, Neche, who was the reigning Head of House (HoH), had called housemates together and announced her decision to exit, thanking those who had her back. While not stating her exact reasons, she said, “As difficult as it is, I’m going to be taking a voluntary exit tonight.”

“I’m honoured to have served as the Head of House before I take my exit. I’ll be going into the diary room now and I won’t come out,” she added, heading for the Diary Room immediately. She has not been seen in the house since.

Earlier in the evening, during the live eviction show, Ebuka had asked Neche about life in the house, noting that she had become less lively than she was in her early days on the show.

“Your first week was interesting. You were out there in your first week but it felt like after that a lot of dynamics switched up for you,” Ebuka said, asking her if she switched up on people or people switched up on her. She explained that she often studies her environment, and that some things bring her out of her shell while others take her back in.

“I just felt some weird energy,” Neche said, refusing to name names despite Ebuka’s nudging. But if events of the last week were any indication, the apparently former housemate’s “weird energy” comment may have been directed at Goddessa, with whom she had shared a close friendship before falling out.

Ebuka also asked Goddessa how she would describe her former friend, Neche, to which she replied, “I’ll describe her as a nice young lady, I guess.” She had no answer and appeared confused when Ebuka pointed out that this sounded a little different from how she had described Neche to Sheba during a private conversation in the house.

Also, in a previous diary session on Wednesday, August 12, Neche told Big Brother that her tenure as HoH had been worse than she expected. “I’m very exhausted and tired,” she said, going on to act as house leader for four more days.

Her difficult tenure leading the housemates, the breakdown in her friendship with Goddessa, and Ebuka’s suggestion that her old friend may have said negative things about her appear to have combined to push her toward the decision to take a voluntary exit.

This is not the first time a housemate would take a voluntary exit from the BBNaija house. In August 2021, during the show’s Season 6, Kayvee asked for a voluntary exit on medical grounds, after describing feelings of isolation and a sense that other housemates shunned him.

Last year, Sabrina also exited the 10/10 house on medical grounds. She had experienced a medical emergency and left the house shortly after consulting with Big Brother and the on-site medical team, who decided she should leave for a more thorough medical examination. She later disagreed with that assessment, saying she was healthy enough to continue her stay in the house.
