Fashionnova – Blaqbonez

Blaqbonez, the internet’s best friend, released his second album Young Preacher today*.* “Fashionnova” sees Blaq croon about his plethora of options when it comes to women. He alludes to the fitting nature of Fashionnova pieces on the women he comes across, spotlighting the reality of the life he lives as an established artist. Between the simple drums, the catchy hook, and the violins, you’ll find yourself hitting repeat.

Money & Love – Wizkid

Wizkid is clearly in a different headspace from what we’re used to. This release (as with almost every Wizkid release) was met with a lot of polarizing opinions. Which is interesting, as it makes a smooth listen. Wizkid takes it easy as usual, riding the subtle bounce carried by a well-strung bassline like he’s without a care in the world.

Umbrella – Wande Coal

A week after releasing his classic debut LP, Mushin 2 Mo’Hits, on streaming platforms, WC is back with a new release. This time, it’s titled “Umbrella”, released together with the record label and music distribution company EMPIRE. The record is off their African compilation album, Where We Come From. “Umbrella” is a feel-good song from start to finish, with Wande Coal relaying the beautiful feeling that is falling in love.

Stronger – Psycho YP (feat. Zlatan)

To be honest, this linkup felt surprising. I had no idea what a Psycho YP and Zlatan song would sound like. But much to my pleasant surprise, they enjoyed good synergy. Psycho YP and Zlatan surf the wave — a bouncy one — that contains shades of Amapiano in its production. It would be nice to hear YP in this environment more often.

How To Kill A Man – Bloody Civilian

Bloody Civilian’s effort on NSS’s “Cold Freestyle” made me take a keen interest in her. When I learnt she dropped this Friday, spinning it was an easy decision to make. “How To Kill A Man” is an intense dancehall track sure to incite thunderclaps on the dancefloor. She rides the beat well, and her songwriting is strong as well.
