Nigeria’s creative scene thrives off the creation and utilization of platforms. It also thrives off strong communities. At Bounce, we’re committed to both sides of the spectrum. This desire birthed Bounce Film Fridays; a monthly film screening experience dedicated to celebrating and supporting established and emerging films and filmmakers in Nigeria, and by extension, the continent.

The inaugural event was a memorable one. Our lovely guests came by the BOUNCE headquarters smiling and ready to mingle. Coupled with popcorn and a kicking sangria, our guests were treated to two great films. One of them was Purple Story, a short film directed by Yinusa A. Korede. The film follows the story of a young girl who, while caught by thoughts of love, struggles to draw the line between reality and illusion.

Brotherhood, the other film, was the night’s main attraction. It was a celebration of having a major Nollywood film that’s been given the platform to be enjoyed by the world. We were able to see the mind of director Loukman Ali, who told the story of twin brothers who find themselves on opposite sides of the law and morality. We were fortunate to have one of the film’s stars, Tobi Bakre, join us that evening. It was a nice experience to see him in person immediately after witnessing his wholesome performance on the big screen.

On the night, the energy in the room was cozy and intimate. At the end of the film, it felt like the people in the room had been best friends forever. As everyone exchanged pleasantries, there was a feeling that it would not be the last time we would see our wonderful friends.
