Nigeria is currently enduring an edgy political climate as the 2023 general elections are ongoing. As such, a lot of Nigerians expected that Burna Boy would be active in the political scene. Naturally, because through his artistry, he has always identified with a political stance that conveyed his displeasure at bad governance and the denial of the people’s basic needs. However, the African Giant’s silence at the tensed political situation was quite disappointing to these Nigerians and they didn’t hesitate to call him out.

This evening, Burna Boy responded via his Instagram account in attempts to justify his silence. According to him, he doesn’t trust any of the candidates and would rather stay quiet so as not to endorse any candidate and by doing so, negatively influence the choices of the electorate. He simply just hopes that all the “votes count and the best man wins.”

In the words of the African Giant himself:

“I dunno why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections. Personally, I don’t have a candidate that I believe in. I’ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life because I don’t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person fucks up, as usual, That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”
