March has been quite a month, with elections taking a toll on Nigerians and cash scarcity still being very prevalent. In the middle of this, we have found a way to find things that take our minds off the reality that we face on a daily basis. Films are always a good means of escape, and thankfully, we had a number of Nollywood films released this month.

 

We have compiled a list of the films released this March in  cinemas and on streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

 

Jolly Roger

Jolly Roger  is written by Tunde Apalowo, and follows the story of Brume (Daniel Etim-Effiong), a law-abiding citizen whose life is left in ruins after an encounter with two lawless police officers. The story takes a turn as events unfold and some of the characters reveal that they are not who they seem to be. The film stars Toni Tones, Deyemi Okanlawon, Tina Mba, Toyin Oshinnaike and Frank Donga. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s not too late to stream it on Netflix. 

 

Here Love Lies

 

 

 

Here Love Lies follows the story of Amanda (Tope Oshin) who finds it hard to get a good man for herself. Eventually, when she finds the perfect man, she finds herself in danger. The film stars Daniel Etim Effiong, Omowunmi Dada, Tina Mba, Tim Shelburne, Moyo Lawal and Stephanie Zibili among others. The film is available to be streamed on Netflix. 

 

The Trade

Jade Osiberu’s The Trade is her first film of 2023, and it stars Chiwetalu Agu, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Rita Dominic, Kelechi Udegbe, Gideon Okeke, and  Denola Grey, among others. The film follows the story of Eric, a notorious kidnapper, who has evaded arrest for two decades. However, he comes to the attention of Khalid Abubakar, the head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who then leads an investigation into the kidnapper’s activities. Although it premiered in the cinemas in January, it started streaming on Amazon Prime this March. 

 

Strangers

 

 

This film premiered on Netflix on March 17th. It stars Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Oshin, Bolaji Ogunmola, Debbie Felix, and Femi Adebayo. Strangers is a story of a young boy who is indisposed to civilization, but when a life-ending disease plagues him, he has to find a solution. 

 

Different Strokes

 

 

 

Directed by Biodun Stephen and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Different Strokes follows the story of four friends who navigate their relationships and marriages. The film features stars like Mercy Johnson Okojie, Shaffy Bello, Jim Iyke, Adedimeji Lateef, Deyemi Okanlawon, Etim Effiong, and Jide Kosoko, amongst others.

 

Different Strokes premiered in cinemas nationwide on March 17th.

 

Beyond The Veil

 

 

 

Though Beyond The Veil  is not a feature film, it premiered on Amazon Prime video on March 3rd.  The series focuses on the daily lives of five Northern Nigerian women in Abuja, who try to navigate work, love, family, and friendship. The show stars Jemima Osunde, Norah Ego and Ame Aiyejina.
