Genesis Pictures and Silverbird Film Distribution have announced the partnership for The Waiter by Ay Makun. The collaboration signals a difference in the Nigerian film industry, making them a major player in the box office rumble.

Combined, they have 35.2% of the Nigerian box office aggregate, which puts them ahead of Film One Entertainment. Makun joins the likes of Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham and Mercy Aigbe, to make a cinematic release this December.  With the competition that plays out during the festive season, everyone is eager to see who hits the highest-grossing slate.

In an exclusive with Shock Ng, representatives of Silverbird Distribution and Genesis Pictures define the partnership as a means to widen audience reach across Nigeria. Makun also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, viewing it as a major step in modernizing Nigerian film distribution practices.

The feature is an action-comedy that combines thrilling entertainment with a critical look at Nigeria’s socio-political issues. It features some of Nigeria’s leading acts which include Deyemi Okanlawon, Bucci Franklin, Kunle Remi, Sunshine Rosman and Shaffy Bello. Also including Chris Attoh, Thiny Tony, Toke Makinwa, Williams Uchemba, Ramat Sadau, Regina Daniels, Boma Akpore and Gregory Teddybear.

Makun isn’t new to the cinematic world, with successful runs which include the Merry Men franchise and 30 days in Atlanta. These previous projects have gained award nominations, rankings in the highest grossing charts and streaming platform deals. Which makes the upcoming project an interesting one for the audience to anticipate.

The Waiter will debut across cinemas nationwide on December 20, 2024. More details on the storyline are expected to be released in the coming days.
