Rema’s “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez has now earned an RIAA 6-time platinum plaque after raking in 6 million units sold in the US. This achievement surpasses any other African song in US history.
The song, originally released in February 2022, received a massive boost with the addition of pop star Selena Gomez in a remix later that year.
This strategic collaboration propelled “Calm Down” to unprecedented heights, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending 52 weeks on the chart, the longest run for any African song.
Rema’s “Calm Down” also holds multiple records including the most streamed Afrobeats song on Spotify with its record-breaking 1 billion streams. It also holds the record for the most viewed Nigerian music video on YouTube.
