Tems Wins ELLE Style & 2023 BMI R&B/HipHop Awards

Grammy-winning Nigerian sensation, Tems, has had a great week as she claimed two awards.

First, she was honored with the Trailblazer Award at the ELLE Style Awards in London on September 6th, 2023. The award was presented to her by the talented actress, Naomi Ackie, and BBC Radio 1 presenter, Julie Adenuga.

Additionally, Tems shone at the BMI Awards held at Miami’s LIV nightclub, where she was crowned the R&B/Hip-Hop “Songwriter of the Year.” This marked her fourth BMI Award, recognizing her incredible talent in penning chart-toppers like “Free Mind,” Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther soundtrack, and her standout collaboration on Future’s “WAIT FOR U.”

The event also saw Doja Cat honored as Songwriter of the Year for her hits “Get Into It (Yuh),” “Woman,” and “Vegas.” Furthermore, Sony Music Publishing was recognized as the publisher of the year, Ice Spice received the Impact Award for her hitmaking artistry, and Chris Brown won the Songwriter of the Year title for his tracks “Baddest,” “Come Through,” and “Under the Influence.”

The BMI Awards celebrated the exceptional contributions of songwriters, producers, and music publishers, shining a spotlight on the most-performed R&B and hip-hop tracks of the past year. The night also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop and its legacy and influence on music and culture around the world.
