Nigerian music stars Wizkid, Tems, and Oxlade landed spots on Spotify’s recently released list of the 100 Greatest R&B Songs of the Streaming Era, curated by Spotify’s U.S. editorial team.

The list, spearheaded by Carl Chery, Creative Director and Head of Urban Music at Spotify, highlights impactful R&B released since 2015.  Wizkid secures two placements.  His global smash “Essence,” featuring Tems, sits at No. 21, making it the highest-ranked African song on the list.

“Essence,” a standout track from Wizkid’s album Made In Lagos, has garnered over 230 million streams on Spotify, solidifying its commercial success.

Wizkid also appears on Chris Brown’s “Call Me Everyday” at No. 71 on the list.

Tems receives a solo nod at No. 29 with her introspective song “Free Mind.”

This track hails from her 2020 EP
For Broken Ears and its critical acclaim helped propel Tems to become the first solo Nigerian female artist to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Rounding out the Nigerian trio is Oxlade, whose viral hit “KU LO SA” landed at No. 88.  The song’s great melody fueled its popularity, racking up over 18 million streams on Spotify.

Other African artists on the list include Tyla, whose Grammy-winning song “Water” sits at No. 60, and Cameroonian-American singer Libianca, whose hit “People” secured the No. 99 spot with almost 600 million streams.

“Snooze” by SZA tops the list, with Frank Ocean, Daniel Caesar & H.E.R., Beyonce, and Bryson Tiller following closely. Completing the top 10 are Solange, Summer Walker, Rihanna, Jazmine Sullivan, and Chris Brown featuring Drake.
