Ahead of their joint music project, The Game Needs Us, Nigerian singer BNXN and legendary producer Sarz have released their lead single “Back Outside.” While fans await the highly anticipated body of work, the new single sets the pace for their chest-thumping project.
This isn’t the first time the duo has worked together, as they have been collaborators since 2023 when the BNXN dropped his viral hit “Gwagalada.” And have since worked together on other tracks, including BNXN’s “Pidgin and English” and their latest release, “Back Outside.” However, this is BNXN’s first official release since his last studio album, CAPTAIN.
On BNXN and Sarz’s “Back Outside,” the track blends BNXN’s laid-back, melodic flow with Sarz’s impeccable, rhythm-forward production, capturing their return to the game.
The track opens with a children’s choral backdrop that interpolates the 1990 song “Ko Neye Mounka Allah La” by the legendary Malian Afro-pop duo Amadou & Mariam. Here, Sarz’s masterful production is evident, where the ace producer flips the interpolation for an Afrobeats bounce while layering it with rhythmic African chords and percussion.
“Back Outside” also explores a sonic palette that merges African and South American themes, layered over fluid synth lines. BNXN’s lyricism is as confident as ever, where he addresses his intentional delay from the spotlight and promises a prolific year ahead as he gets back into the game.
On BNXN and Sarz’s “Back Outside,” the duo display a glimpse of their effortless chemistry ahead of their joint project. It’s a track that confidently announces and asserts their need to reunite as one. From one hitmaker to another, they remind listeners that they’re not done yet. And with their joint project underway, fans are in for a swell experience.
