After a quiet run in 2025, Nigerian Street-hop rapper and singer Lil Kesh makes a return with a new single, “Anini (Thief).” The sad love-inspired track marks the artiste’s first release since his last drop in 2025.
While the serial hitmaker is famously known for his street-inspired rap songs during his stint with YBNL Nation, his notable releases of love and romance-tracked songs have often captivated listeners. And on his latest release, he channels his inner lover boy for a melodious delivery.
On Lil Kesh’s “Anini (Thief),” the artiste references the notorious 80s robber Anini through a metaphor for romantic betrayal. For the Street-hop rapper, he leans into a vulnerable feel, likening a love interest to a thief who stole his heart.
“oh-oh-oh-oh-oh / wetin you do me” The song opens with a choral modulation and layered chords marked by violin and guitar motifs. Lil Kesh kicks in with tender vocals characterised by vulnerable confessions. He cries over the heartbreak while admitting his yearning for intimacy.
Alongside Lil Kesh’s controlled delivery, the track’s highlight is seen in the vibrant production marked by the choral undertones, layered chords and up-tempo percussions. While the song follows the end of the Valentine season, the brilliant composition sets the pace for a promising run for Lil Kesh in this new year.
“Anini (Thief)” is a track constructed to capture listeners on first listen. And would constantly linger for listeners with relatable experiences.
