Nigerian youngster, Udodi Onwuzurike, has joined Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume in the top group of athletes who have signed deals with Adidas.

Onwuzurike recently forfeited his student-athlete scholarship at the elite Stanford University and turned professional. The NCAA 200-meter champion made a video announcement on his Instagram account, and he has since stated that he will run professionally for the German athletic company.

“Impossible Is Nothing. Excited for this new chapter @adidas”

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the best young sprinters in the world and won the NCAA 200-meter event this season. He also boasts personal bests of 19.76 and 9.92 seconds in the 200 and 100 meters.

It is noteworthy that his 19.76 seconds is the second-fastest time by a Nigerian athlete in history as well as the fifth-fastest mark in the globe this year. He competed for Nigeria and won the World U20 championship in the 200-meter event in Nairobi, Kenya. In the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, he was a member of the winning 4×100-meter winning quartet.

After Amusan, Brume, and Favour Ofili, Onwuzurike is the fourth Nigerian athlete currently signed to a contract with Adidas.

In preparation for a well-deserved berth at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he will be aiming for a great maiden professional season.
