Nigeria’s D’Tigress have ended their 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign without a win after suffering a heavy 111-56 defeat to France in their final Group B game in Berlin on Monday.

The result leaves Nigeria at the bottom of the group after three defeats, having already been eliminated following losses to South Korea and Hungary in their opening two games.

France took control early and built a 31-13 lead after the first quarter. Nigeria struggled to keep pace as the deficit grew to 39 points by halftime, with France heading into the break 65-26 ahead.

The gap became even wider in the third quarter as France added 30 points to move 95-36 in front. Nigeria managed a better showing in the final period, scoring 20 points to France’s 16, but the late improvement had little bearing on the outcome.

Grace Efosa-Aguebor was Nigeria’s leading scorer with 15 points, while Balogun contributed 11. France, meanwhile, had five players score in double figures, led by Gabby Williams with 25 points.

Williams was particularly effective from long range, making six of her eight attempts from three-point territory as France completed a dominant performance.

The defeat brings an abrupt end to a disappointing tournament for D’Tigress, who entered the World Cup as reigning African champions after winning a fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.

Nigeria had also made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by reaching the quarter-finals for the first time, but they could not carry that form into their third appearance at the Women’s World Cup.

Their campaign in Berlin therefore ends with three losses from three games, with the 55-point defeat to France sealing a difficult outing on the global stage.
