The world’s first all-electric raceboat series, the E1 World Championship, will make a stop at Lagos’s Victoria Island lagoon from Saturday, October 4 to 5.

Comprising nine teams, each with two pilots of mandated mixed gender and owned by global icons like Will Smith (Team Westbrook Racing), Didier Drogba (Team Drogba), LeBron James (Team Alula), Tom Brady (Team Brady) and others, the E1 World Championship in Lagos this weekend will mark the first time such an event is happening in Africa.

The 2025 season began in Monaco earlier this year with Team Brady already leading with 135 points, one point above Team Rafa, backed by Rafael Nadal. Just 21 points cover the top four, with Aoki Racing (Steve Aoki’s team) on 125 points and Team Blue Rising, Virat Kohli’s team, with 114 points. This sets the stage for a high-stakes qualifying run in Lagos on Saturday, before the full race action on Sunday.

African football legend Didier Drogba, alongside his partner Gabrielle Lemaire, co-owner of Team Drogba, is expected to be trackside at the Lagos Grand Prix. Both were instrumental in bringing the race to the continent for the first time.

The winner of the Lagos Grand Prix is likely to gain the crucial advantage to claim the 2025 crown of “Champions of the Water” at the culmination of the season in Miami in November.
