Foremost consumer electronics company, TECNO, launched a massive upgrade in their smartphone innovations following the invention of the CAMON 30 series featuring the CAMON 30, CAMON 30 Pro, and the CAMON 30 Premier.

TECNO, a subsidiary of Transsion Holdings—parent company to Itel and Infinix— offers some top-tier features spearheaded by Sony-backed cameras in the CAMON 30 Series. As witnessed in their strategic partnership with the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and the photography challenge featuring renowned photographer Amaking Klef, the CAMON 30 series are significantly marketed as camera-centric products.

Above this collective impeccable camera quality, Bounce Networks reviews these smartphones and unboxes their features ahead of their global market penetration.

Unboxing

The TECNO CAMON 30 smartphone is packed with the usual accessories that include a plastic case, a 45 W charger, a USB-C cable, a screen protector, and a SIM card ejector tool. Notably, the package is void of an earpiece or earbud.

Design and Build

With a wide frame measuring up to 165.3 x 75.3 x 7.7 mm, the CAMON 30 significantly differs from the CAMON 20 Pro. The polygon camera module makes way for a circular one. At the same time, its rear is glass-made—available in nature-inspired colour combinations: Iceland Basaltic Dark, Uyuni Salt White, and Sahara Sand Brown.

With this improved design, TECNO  also rearranged some features—across this series—as the dual flashlight is situated away from the camera, while a red light “Smart Breathing Light”—an indicator for operations like video recording, infrared remote, and voice assistant—is located on the top corner.

Dolby Atmos Stereo dual speakers handle the device’ immersive audio-visual experience.

Display

This device comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display screen, with a pretty fast refresh rate pegged at 120Hz. Its 1080 x 2436 pixels resolution makes it an “Always-on display” mobile.

The fingerprint sensor is also on display, throughout the CAMON 30 series.

Camera

The camera, being the main selling point of the CAMON 30 was significantly upgraded to yield ultra-high-definition pictures. The front camera for context is equipped with a 50-megapixel lens, coupled with advanced human eye-tracking technology that captures the details at the moment.

At first glance, it might look like there are four cameras on the back camera, but a closer look reveals two: a 50-megapixel OIS camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera that retains real colour in its shot. These, coupled with the AI toolkit and the dual-led flash for both rear and selfie cameras make for a better night and day photography experience.

Lastly, on its rear camera, TECNO says the classic zoom ring design above its aesthetic allure, aids in heat dissipation, ensuring smooth and efficient operation of the device.

Battery

The CAMON 30 comes with a 5000mAh battery and a 45 W SuperCharger that makes charging super fast. Charging this device takes about 60 minutes to go from 0% to 100%, which is impressively lasting.

Software and Performance

This device is powered by the latest Android 14 OS with a Mediatek Helio G99 Ultimate chipset. Although its chipset isn’t as powerful as the other devices in the series, the CAMON 30 processor supports lag-free scrolling, smooth multitasking from one app to the other, and an overall easy-to-navigate user interface

Notably, TECNO ‘s AI-powered voice assistant, Ella, can be engaged in a conversation, write scripts, emails, etc—making the device great for both professional and personal use.

Although this device has a 5G variant—TECNO  CAMON 30 5G, the specifications aren’t far apart, bar its Dimensity 7020 chipset, 70W Ultra Charge, and its trio segmented memory.

Overall, the TECNO  CAMON 30 with its 256 GB internal storage and 8-12GB RAM is sold across stores with prices ranging between  ₦297,000.00 – ₦358,000.00.

TECNO CAMON 30 Pro 5G

The CAMON 30 Pro is the ideal middle ground between the base CAMON 30 5G and the ultimate CAMON 30 Premier. It is available exclusively in a 5G variant, with no 4G option. While it shares many specifications with the CAMON 30 5G, it features a few key differences as explained below.

Unboxing

The CAMON 30 Pro is accompanied by a standard retail package that includes a 70W charger, a USB-C cable, a screen protector, and a SIM card ejector tool. Unlike the CAMON 30 that’s void of handsfree, this smartphone package includes a pair of wireless earbuds.

Display

The display is identical to that of the CAMON 30, with the notable improvement of a refresh rate spanning up to 144 Hz. This enhanced display delivers vibrant images with accuracy and a peak brightness of 1300 nits, ensuring clear viewing even in bright conditions.

Perhaps, what makes this smartphone distinct is the “Wet Finger Touchscreen Operation feature.” Operating most smartphones in a wet condition is almost impossible, but the CAMON 30 Pro has been built to work perfectly in wet conditions.

It’s imperative to note that the Wet Operation feature doesn’t account for water resistance.

The smartphone is only available in two colours: Iceland Basaltic Dark and Alps Snowy Silver.

Camera

The CAMON 30 Pro features a 50 MP Sony IMX930 lens within its triple rear camera setup, a 4K 60FPS eye-tracking autofocus front camera, and an AI camera toolkit to enhance photography.

Battery

With a 70W ultra charger, the CAMON 30 Pro 5000Mah charges from 0% to 100% within 50 minutes.

Software and Performance

The CAMON 30 Pro is powered by the latest Android 14 OS and features a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset.

Additionally, TECNO  equipped the smartphone with an “Infrared Blaster” that enhances its versatility. This feature enables the device to function as a remote control that controls a wide range of household appliances like televisions, fan air conditioners, etc.

The TECNO CAMON 30 Pro further sets a new consumers’ delight benchmark, as gamers—courtesy of the 9-layer Gaming-grade Cooling—can enjoy a seamless gaming experience in the absence of screen lag, software crashes, and overheating.

As can be seen, this is a well-equipped, versatile, and high-quality software-backed device at a price range between  ₦500,000 and ₦538,000.

TECNO CAMON 30 Premier

This is the ultimate model in the new Camon 30 Series and it certainly poses tons of spot-on features worthy of a flagship device.

With a similar retail package to the CAMON 30 Pro, the CAMON 30 Premier is distinctly accompanied by Tecno TWS Buds 3 and a protective silicone case. While most of its hardware components are the same as the earlier released models, its must-discussed unique features will be unravelled below.

TECNO CAMON 30 Premier: Design and Build

The TECNO CAMON 30 Premier seamlessly blends traditional aesthetics with modern design elements, creating an ultimate model that stands out in both style and functionality.

Covered with a Gorilla Glass 5 sheet in the front, the device’s side frame and a small portion of the back is made of aluminium, while the rest of the back panel is vegan leather, widely available in two colours: Hawaii Lava Black and Alps Snowy Silver.

Display

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier features a 6.77-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2780 x 1264 pixels (450 ppi). This high-resolution LTPO panel allows for precise refresh rate control, offering four modes: 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and Auto-switch. The adaptive refresh rate can reach up to 120Hz, making it power-efficient for users.

The device is also enhanced by the “Wet Finger Touchscreen Operation feature.”

Camera

The Tecno Camon 30 Premier boasts an advanced triple camera system, including a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens within a periscope setup, allowing for larger sensors in a compact space. The front camera is equally notable, featuring a 50MP sensor with autofocus.

Additionally, the smartphone is the first smartphone to incorporate Sony’s dedicated CXD5622GG imaging chip. It also has an impressive SONY IMX890 AI Imaging Sensor that aids clear-cut capturing even in low light conditions.

Battery

Same mAh and charging specifics as the Camon 30 Pro.

Software

This device is powered by a Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset paired with a Mali-G610 MP6 GPU.

With a single memory option of 12GB/512GB, the device is currently available at ₦693,185.
