Since the first launch of Grand Theft Auto (GTA) in 1997, the open-world video game franchise has grown into one of the best-selling games in history. The last instalment, GTA V, initially launched in 2013, reached an unprecedented milestone in the gaming industry, setting seven Guinness World Records and generating more revenue than blockbuster films like Avengers and Avatar. However, fans have been left waiting for over a decade without a new release, aside from enhanced re-releases of GTA V.

That wait is about to end. Although anticipation has been met with disappointment, heightened by the lack of a second trailer and over a year of silence from the game’s publisher, Rockstar Games, the release window of ‘Fall 2025” is still expected to be honoured.

During Take-Two Interactive’s Q3 2025 earnings call on February 6, the parent company of Rockstar Games reaffirmed that GTA VI is slated to launch in the fall, meaning it could arrive between late August and December 2025.

With no updates on a second trailer, scepticism remains high among fans. However, Business Insider reported that Take-Two’s stock dipped slightly when the first trailer was released due to the confirmed 2025 launch. Another stock drop in May 2024, attributed to the same reason, is likely to keep Rockstar on track to meet its release schedule—at least to appease stakeholders, whose shares will inevitably become more valuable, considering the game’s pre-orders alone are expected to generate over $1 billion.

The GTA franchise will return to the fictional Vice City in its sixth instalment with two main protagonists: Jason and Lucia. Lucia, a new character, will become the first female lead in the franchise. The initial 90-second trailer, which Rockstar released earlier than planned due to a leak over a year ago, showcased the game’s cinematic flair and setting but revealed little about specifics such as the dual-protagonist structure, visuals, and gameplay expectations, making the second trailer all but essential and pressing, for clarity and marketing purposes.

Speculation is mounting that the next trailer could drop as soon as February 14. The theory is tied to Valentine’s Day, which aligns with the theme of GTA VI’s rumoured lovers — a symbolic and fitting date for Rockstar to unveil more. That remains to be seen, but the publisher has previously confirmed that the game will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and not PC, just like previous instalments.
