Google has opened applications for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Sub-Saharan Africa for the 2024 Hustle Academy Cohort where Artificial Intelligence (AI) training will be integrated directly into the curriculum.

Launched in 2022, the Hustle Academy—a free, five-day virtual bootcamp—seeks to bridge the gap between skill acquisition, funding, and business execution by offering extensive business education, mentorship, and networking opportunities that’ll arm African entrepreneurs with the skills needed to thrive and contribute to the continent’s economic growth.

With over 10,000 participants recorded in the past editions, the initiative empowers small businesses for growth—focusing on revenue generation, investment readiness, and long-term sustainability—through modules centred on Business Strategy, Digital Marketing, Financial Planning, and Pitching.

In 2023, over 5,300 SMBs graduated from the Academy, while N75 million was disbursed to 15 standout business owners who are of Nigerian descent.

This year’s cohort is, however, set to integrate AI modules directly into the curriculum. This introduction is poised to provide insights on data-driven decisions, optimising operations, and building AI-powered marketing strategies and digital strategies.

Artificial intelligence (AI) holds immense potential for African small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), enabling them to drive innovation, increase efficiency, and unlock new levels of economic growth,” Kristy Grant —Google’s Head of B2B Marketing, SSA said as reported by ITWeb.

She added, “The Hustle Academy has supported over 10,000 businesses that have gone ahead to raise funding and create jobs since inception. By incorporating AI into our curriculum, we aim to amplify this impact further, equipping SMBs to harness AI technologies for improved business performance and economic progress.”

For this year’s week-long cohort, interested entrepreneurs in Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya are expected to check their eligibility by applying here.
