Nigerian vocalist, Chike, has released the video of his latest track, “Ego Oyibo.” The video takes viewers on a journey through a rural setting, where Chike and his love interest, a white woman (hence the title, “ego oyibo”) craft a stereotypical tale of village love.
As Chike serenades his “ego oyibo,” he voices, “I give your papa my money / I give your mama my promise.” Intimate shots of both Chike and his love interest come alive, as she lovingly prepares African meals for him, seemingly embracing the role of the “traditional woman,” a somewhat perplexing portrayal that adds a thought-inducing twist to the narrative.
