Nigerian sibling duo The Cavemen have released a new single titled “Dancing Shoes”, continuing their modern reinterpretation of the highlife tradition. Popular for their distinct fusion of Afrobeats, jazz, soul and classic highlife, Kingsley Okorie and Benjamin James deliver a jubilant composition that invites listeners into an atmosphere of release and celebration. On Dancing Shoes, Benjamin’s falsetto rises above a layered arrangement of traditional African polyrhythms and contemporary groove, with lyrics weaving between English and their native Igbo.
“The song “Dancing Shoes” means a lot to us,” the duo said in a statement. “We want people to let go of all their worries. All we can do is our best and leave it God. We want you to just put on your dancing shoes and dance, feel alive and free. Leave your worries and Burdens at home.”
The Cavemen have become torchbearers of a new wave of highlife, which they term “Highlife Fusion.” Their global profile has grown in recent years, with over 46 million streams and collaborations with artists including Wizkid, Asa, CKay, and Davido. They featured on the tribute album for A24’s Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense and Davido’s Timeless, and have performed at venues including Madison Square Garden, London’s Koko Camden, and Central Park’s Summer Stage.
