This New Music Friday is exceptionally promising, led by a barrage of releases from industry heavy-hitters. The African Giant, Burna Boy, makes his grand return with the new album No Sign Of Weakness, validating his global status with features from list including Travis Scott, Mick Jagger, Shaboozey, and Stromae. The full-length projects continue with Odeal’s The Summer That Saved Me and Reekado Banks’ first album in nine years, The Game Needs You. Adding a cross-genre twist, Moliy’s summer jam “Shake It To The Max” makes its way to dancehall legend Sean Paul for another remix.
The wave of major singles is just as strong. Global superstar Drake poses the question “What Did I Miss?” on his latest solo drop. The collaborative spirit is high as Joyner Lucas enlists J Balvin and Afrobeats star Fireboy DML for the track “Time Is Money.” Across the pond, UK rap icon Skepta returns to the forefront with his new single, “Friendly Fire.”
There are strong showings from South African pop star Tyla, Nigerian rap veteran MI Abaga, Houston rapper Monaleo, and the harmonious UK trio FLO, who team up with producer Kaytranada for their smooth new single, “The Mood.”
