The year had barely begun when music legend 2Baba stunned fans by announcing on social media that he and actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia were separating and had filed for divorce. The announcement, shared on January 26, set off shockwaves across the entertainment community and prompted widespread public speculation about the future of one of Nigeria’s most iconic couples.

What made the situation particularly chaotic was the subsequent flip-flop on social media. 2Baba initially claimed his Instagram account had been hacked, only to later confirm in a video statement that the divorce message was indeed authored by him. Fans took to X, TikTok, and Instagram to commiserate, debate, and dissect every detail of the saga, turning a deeply personal development into a national spectacle.

Nearly a year later, the split continues to be in public conversations as 2Baba’s marital life continues to be a source of controversy.

2. 2Baba vs Natasha Osawaru 

When 2Baba separated from Annie, he began a public relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru that quickly led to a marriage. Controversy did not stop with the Afrobeats star’s first marriage as reports emerged in November of a heated argument between 2Baba and his new wife during a visit to the United Kingdom (UK), a confrontation that was reportedly serious enough to involve local police.

The drama escalated on December 1 when members of 2Baba’s former management team — Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan — joined a live broadcast with media personality Daddy Freeze to lambast Natasha, accusing her of seeking control over 2Baba’s career and personal finances. In a series of social posts, the artist alleged that despite strong digital numbers and airplay, his earnings did not reflect the reported success of his songs. The accusations quickly drew attention to the opaque nature of artist-management relationships in Nigeria’s fast-growing music sector.

Industry insiders weighed in, with some defending the realities of marketing costs, while others admitted that transparency remains a chronic problem in the business.

6. Mercy Chinwo vs EeZee Tee 

One of the most consequential celebrity clashes of the year involved gospel star Mercy Chinwo and her former manager and label boss, EeZee Tee of EeZee Conceptz. The singer, in a social media post on January 28, accused her ex-manager of withholding royalties, manipulating contracts, and failing to account for earnings from some of her most successful projects.
