With the industry already halfway through the year, Nollywood has proven to be a hub for exciting, authentic and emotionally charged stories. With award ceremonies like the AMVCA recognising a spectrum of films, and blockbusters like Call of My Life giving Nollywood a rom-com it has been missing, the first half of the year in the industry has indeed been noteworthy for film audiences.

With this month kick-starting the latter half of the 2026, viewers are excited to see what the world’s second-largest industry has in store. From action-packed films, thrillers and exciting drama series to sequels and romcoms, the films hitting the screens this month prove to be worth the wait. Here is a roundup of Nollywood movies and series everyone should be seeing this June.

Surviving Biafra: Voices from the Nigerian Civil War (June 1st)

Award-winning Nigerian filmmaker Meji Alabi documents the history of the Nigerian Civil War in the BBC documentary Surviving Biafra: Voices from the Nigerian Civil War. The 75-minute film explores the Biafran War through raw, firsthand accounts from soldiers and civilians on both sides of the conflict, including those of Meji Alabi’s grandfather, Godwin Alabi-Isama, a former Nigerian Army commando.

The documentary also features previously unseen frontline archival footage and testimonies from the last surviving generation of the war, including former female soldiers who fought on opposing sides. The documentary is available on BBC iPlayer and YouTube.

Blood Sisters 2 (June 5th)

Kayode Kasum and Daniel Orahi’s highly anticipated crime thriller, Blood Sisters, returns for its second season this month. The series continues with Sarah and Kemi’s fate as they face the consequences of Kola Ademola’s death, where his family and law enforcement close in on the evidence behind his death.

The Netflix original series returns with more secrets, betrayals, and intense family drama as the women face new enemies, deeper conspiracies, and emotional consequences that threaten to destroy everything.

The series star-studded cast includes Ini Dima-Okojie, Nancy Isime, Michelle Dede, Kate Henshaw, Kehinde Bankole, Anita Asuoha (Real Warri Pikin), Gabriel Afolayan, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Genoveva Umeh.

My Father’s Shadow (June 5)

BAFTA and AMVCA-winning film My Father’s Shadow returns to the Nigerian cinema again one month ahead of the June 12 Democracy celebration. Set during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, the film follows two young brothers navigating Lagos with their estranged father while political unrest during Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s regime unfolds around them.

Directed and produced by Akinola Davies Jr. and co-written by Wale Davies, it stars Sope Dirisu, Godwin Chiemerie Egbo, Chibuike Marvellous Egbo, Olarotimi Fakunle, Martha Ehinome Orhiere, and Patrick Diabuah, amongst others.

On Different Grounds (June 12th)

Nicolette Ndigwe-Kalu’s On Different Grounds is a romcom collaboration between Nollywood and Bollywood. The film follows a divorced billionaire couple who are forced to reunite for their eldest daughter’s wedding, unaware that she has a secret plan of her own. This leads the couple to unravel deep-seated emotions and long-buried tensions that they must navigate without ruining their daughter’s wedding.

The film stars Uche Jombo, Jennifer Eliogu, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, Nkem Owoh, Uche Montana, Ebele Okara, Vineet Raina, Abena Akuaba, and Mbadiwe Twins.

Ìwé Àlà – An Ojude Oba Story (June 12th) 

This film is set against the backdrop of the popular and vibrant Ojude Oba festival in Yoruba culture. It follows the story of a family that faces challenges but finds strength in unity and tradition. The film is filled with family drama and comedy, celebrating the spirit of the Ojude Oba Festival and the resilience of family.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and features a cast that includes Mercy Aigbe, Owobo Ogunde, Eniola Ajao, Tobi Makinde, Demola Adedoyin, Dele Odule, and Farooq Oreagba.

Kalakiri: The Price of Freedom (June 12)

Chika C. Onu’s Kalakiri: The Price of Freedom tells the disappearance of a pro-democracy activist ahead of a presidential nomination and is later revealed to have been detained at a remote island prison called Kalakiri. Chaos unfolds upon discovering his disappearance.

A powerful story about sacrifice, survival, and the true cost of freedom, the film stars Charles Okocha, Segun Arinze, Nancy Isime, Aisha Mohammed, and Caleb Richards

Blood Debt (June 19)

Revenge, dark family secrets, and betrayal take centre stage in Chukwuka Ndife’s debut feature, Blood Debt, a thriller expected to deliver suspense, emotional conflict, and shocking twists. The film focuses on a young man caught in a cycle of inherited violence and the consequences that follow his past actions, which have returned to haunt him.

The film features a powerful blend of Nollywood veterans and rising stars, including Uzoamaka Power, Jide Kene Achufusi, Norbert Young, Tony Umez, Ebele Okaro, John Okham, and Segun Arinze.

King of Thieves 2 (Agesinkole) (June 26th) 

Tope Adebayo and Adebayo Tijani’s epic thriller returns for its sequel in King of Thieves (Agesinkole). When a feared bandit launches an attack on the kingdom of Ajeromi, the people are thrown into chaos and forced to rise as warriors against the bandit and his raids.

The film features an ensemble cast including Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, Toyin Abraham, and Ibrahim Chatta.

Remi & Nneoma (June 26)

Remi and Nneoma is a modern reimagining of the biblical story of Ruth, exploring themes of faith, healing, and resilience. The story revolves around the emotional journey of two women, Nneoma and her daughter-in-law, Remi, who remain together after a shared loss.

It is a contemporary telling of love and loyalty. Directed by Lyndsey Efejuku and produced by Bikiya Graham-Douglas, the cast members include Bisola Aiyeola, Ifeanyi Kalu, Uche Montana, Eucharia Anunobi, Liz Benson, Tina Mba, Kunle Coker, and Bucci Franklin.

The Night of June 7th (June)

The Night of June 7th dramatises the Apo Six killings of June 7, 2005, when police officers brutally murdered six traders in Abuja. A tragedy that exposed deep issues of police corruption and impunity in Nigeria.

Directed by Toka McBaror and produced by Linda Ikeji, the film stars Femi Branch, Ali Nuhu, Gideon Okeke, and Charles Lenny. There is no exact release date for the movie, but it is scheduled for this June.
