This week’s music scene is dominated by a trifecta of massive album drops, spanning Afropop’s sensual side, Nigerian Drill’s conquering force, and a monumental posthumous release in Hip-Hop.
Following his LV N ATTN and GANGSTER ROMANTIC projects, Lojay delivers his long-awaited debut album, a 14-track exploration of modern romance described as “messy, emotional, sexy, and honest.” Simultaneously, Nigerian rap powerhouse ODUMODUBLVCK unleashes his debut album, Industry Machine, making waves for an unprecedented reason: it features both Afrobeats rivals Davido and Wizkid on the same tracklist.
The new music drops in the Afrobeats scene are full of life, with more than just new albums keeping the energy high. There are some fire collaborations like Kashcoming and Mavo with their track “Hello Hello,” T.I Blaze and Llona teaming up on “Lonely Road,” and the duo of Joeboy and Shoday linking up on “Ring.”
Elsewhere, Hip-Hop legends Mobb Deep return with their first album since the passing of Prodigy in 2017, a posthumous effort titled Infinite that features unreleased vocals from the late MC. PinkPantheress offers Fancy Some More?, a mammoth 22-track remix collection that reworks her Mercury Prize-shortlisted mixtape, inviting contributions from pop icons like Kylie Minogue. Meanwhile, Kaash Paige continues to evolve past her 2020 debut album, returning with her latest release, 2 Late To Be Toxic.
