Taves Uche Jumbo

For the first time in contemporary Nigerian music, a Wizkid classic is being sampled, and Singer-songwriter Taves is behind it. The Ibadan-born artist is bridging generations by reimagining Wizkid’s legendary hit “Don’t Dull” on his new single “Uche Jumbo.” The charming pop track blends his signature emotive songwriting with smooth Afro-fusion production.

The latest single is a flirtatious, high-energy love song celebrating beauty, confidence, and attraction. Taves floats across the rhythm to admire a captivating woman, dropping charm-heavy lines and comparing her allure to legendary Nigerian icons like Nollywood superstar Uche Jombo and Miss World Agbani Darego.

The veteran Nollywood actress Uche Jombo herself actively co-signed and celebrated the song on her social media platforms following its release.

Produced by a heavyweight team of Arieenati and OG Sterling, the track masterfully loops Samklef’s iconic, decade-old percussion. Rather than an explicit sample, Taves bends the nostalgic instrumentation to his will, filtering it through his signature, modern vocal layout and alternative Afrobeats flair.

The standout hook locks the groove down instantly: “Omo ele to n jo / You fine pass Uche Jombo / And Agbani Darego.”  Ending the track with a choral undertone interpolating “Don’t Dull” chorus was another memorable standout moment.

Uche Jumbo” is a track that smoothly eases you into the groove with a yearning for an instant replay. By effortlessly sampling a blueprint track that helped shape the modern Afrobeats movement, Taves honours the genre’s foundations while confidently carving out his lane in the industry.
